SCAN strengthened its international collaboration efforts during a recent visit to Vietnam, where members of the SCAN Board met with Vietnam Customs officials. The engagement underscored SCAN’s continued commitment to working closely with customs authorities around the world to advance supply chain security, enhance compliance standards, and support more efficient global trade.

During the meeting, SCAN Board representatives and Vietnam Customs officials exchanged perspectives on emerging challenges in international trade, including risk management, audit integrity, and the increasing complexity of global supply chains.

The discussion highlighted the shared objective of fostering trusted partnerships between the public and private sectors, an essential component for modern customs operations. SCAN’s standardized audit framework was presented as a practical solution to help streamline compliance processes, reduce duplication, and improve transparency across supply chains.

Vietnam Customs, recognized for its ongoing modernization efforts and commitment to trade facilitation, demonstrated strong interest in approaches that enable greater efficiency while maintaining high levels of security and regulatory compliance.

SCAN took part in the World Customs Organization (WCO) Technology Conference & Exhibition in January 2026 in Abu Dhabi, joining global leaders in customs, trade, and technology as both a sponsor and exhibitor. The event brought together government officials, private sector partners, and innovators to explore how emerging technologies are transforming border management and international trade.

As a sponsor of the conference, SCAN maintained a prominent presence through its booth, where attendees had the opportunity to learn more about SCAN’s standardized supply chain audit framework and its role in improving transparency, reducing duplication, and strengthening global supply chain security.

The booth served as a key meeting point for conversations with customs authorities, industry partners, and trade professionals. These discussions highlighted the growing need for collaborative, data-driven solutions that align with global standards while improving efficiency across complex supply chains.

Dan Purtell’s Tech Talk on Innovation and Trust

A major highlight of SCAN’s participation was a Tech Talk delivered by Dan Purtell, who shared insights into how technology is reshaping supply chain compliance and risk management. SCAN Immersive Auditing: Technology and methods for remote auditing of global supply chains

The SCAN Association and BSI Innovation has requested BSI Standards Ltd to provide expert services in relation to the development of this private standard. This included undertaking domain research to understand how this standard relates to other national/international standards and identification of relevant stakeholders; identification and formation of an external review group; creation of an initial draft standard; building consensus with the review group resulting in an update to the standard and publishing of the final version.

The British Standards Institution (BSI) is a Royal Charter Company and was the world’s first National Standards Body. BSI is appointed by Government as the UK National Standards Body and represents national interests at the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) and the European Standards Organizations (CEN, CENELEC and ETSI). This standard is not to be regarded as a British Standard or a Publicly Available Specification.
